The financial requirement increases from 1 December 2020
International students from outside the UK must apply for a student visa if studying a full-time degree course in the UK. Students can not apply a student visa for part-time courses and a student’s eligibility is calculated using a point-based system.
Meeting the financial requirements for a Tier 4 visa makes up 10 points of the 40 points required, so it’s important that one understand exactly how much money is needed beforehand and can provide evidence that they have enough money to support themselves during studies
If you apply under the Student route on or after 1 December 2020, the financial requirement you must meet will be:
- £1,334 a month to study in London
- £1,023 a month to study outside London
The maximum amount of money you must have is the relevant sum for you multiplied by nine.
- £12,006 to study in London
- £9,207 to study outside London
This will also affect you if you apply under the Child Student route as a 16- or 17-year old living independently.
Doctorate extension scheme applicants who are not exempt must provide evidence of £2,668 if in London, or £2,046 if outside London.
